Jure Grudnik (INMATE) – BONE Drums as an extension of my creativity and musical identity

From Accordion to Metal – My serious journey into music began in elementary school when I attended music school to learn the piano accordion. I successfully completed my studies, but towards the end, I became drawn to heavier music. Initially, I explored rock, but everything changed when I heard Metallica’s “One” at a birthday party. In that moment, I became a “metalhead.” The distinctive guitar shredding and powerful bass drum completely captivated me, sparking my interest in playing drums. In high school, I quickly realized that I had to do something about my desire to play the drums. In the third year of high school, I sold my accordion and bought my first drum set, a Peavey. After just two months, we formed a band called Rotting Cemetery, playing several gigs together.

The INMATE Story – In 2005, our journey with INMATE began, and this year marks the band’s 20th anniversary. Our main principle is the constant creation of original music and the search for new influences. To date, we have released six studio works – five albums and one mini-album. We have never particularly focused on playing covers, but rather on our own creativity and original songs.

BONE Drums – An Indispensable Part of My Musical Journey
BONE drums provide me with a unique sound that allows for versatility in writing and creating new tracks for INMATE. Over the years, I have tested numerous drum kits, and I can confidently say that BONE drums are the best choice for my playing style.

The main reasons why I swear by BONE drums

  • Exceptional build quality: Every BONE product has met my demands in terms of both sound and technical perfection.
  • Robustness and reliability: Drums must be massive and durable, especially when playing metal, where playing is intense. Nejc (Founder of BONE drums) uses carefully selected materials in the production and perfectly understands how the drum behaves during playing. Therefore, they are designed to withstand strong hits and demanding playing dynamics
  • Collaboration in production: As a musician and mechanical engineer, I appreciate the opportunity to collaborate in the process of manufacturing and designing drums. This allows me to better understand the operation of the drums and their components. It is crucial for musicians to know their tools in detail, as this allows us to play better and more efficiently and opens up possibilities for upgrading instruments.
  • Slovenian craftsmanship: BONE drums are a product of local expertise and production. Supporting high-quality Slovenian manufacturers is very important to me.
  • Constant innovation: BONE is a manufacturer that is not satisfied with what has been achieved, constantly researching and developing new solutions. I always enjoy visiting Nejc in the workshop, as he always shows something new there: a new combination of materials or an attractive design.

Jure’s BONE Collection: My BONE drum collection includes:

  • Hybrid Birch-Walnut shells in configuration: 11-ply on bass drum, 9-ply toms and floor toms
  • Snow White Matte Lacquer Finish
  • Sizes: Toms 10” x 7” and 12” x 8”, Floor Toms 14” x 16” and 16” x 16”, Bass Drum 22” x 18”
  • Hardware: Black powdered hardware, tube lugs, off-set style, Gauger suspension tom mounts, 2.3 mm power hoops, heavy-duty spurs, and legs
  • Snares: 14” x 6.5” TRUE Carbon Hybrid, 13” x 7”, Stainless Steel, 13” x 7” Maple, 14” x 7.5” Acrylic

BONE drums are more than just instruments—they are an essential part of my sound, creativity, and expression. They allow me to push my musical boundaries and continue evolving as a drummer.
